What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is the world’s most popular teeth alignment system. Invisalign straightens teeth using a series of clear, removable aligners that are custom made for your teeth using computer modulated scanning. Invisalign does not use the traditional metal wires or brackets to correct misalignment of teeth, hence, this treatment is a great option for patients who want to improve their smile without the use of braces.
Even before your Invisalign treatment is finished, you will begin to enjoy the benefits of a better smile with each progression. Teeth alignment starts right at the beginning.
How does Invisalign work?
1. Initial Consultation: At your initial consultation at Lux Dental, you will be invited to have a face-to-face discussion
with an Invisalign provider/dentist. During this initial visit, we will discuss the role of Invisalign, how it works, and
how to look after your teeth during treatment. This way, you will have the information that is needed to make your
informed decision.
2. Pre-treatment profile: once you make the decision to go ahead with the Invisalign treatment, we will take a number
of photographs of your facial profile, your smile, and also your teeth from various angles. X-rays will be
required in order to make sure there are no underlying issues before proceeding. A full Dental Examination and
cleaning appointment is typically required and necessary before proceeding with Invisalign placement.
3. iTero Scanning: Lux Dental provides iTero Scanning 5D services so that we can show you the final result of the
completed Invisalign treatment through the 3D simulation. This state of the art technology is an alternative to
traditional sticky alginate trays and it is much more comfortable for the patient! This can be performed during your
examination appointment or during your Invisalign consultation appointment.
4. Preparatory work: Prior to delivery of the initial alignment trays, teeth may need minor adjustments that are
included in your overall treatment planning.
5. Wearing trays: You will wear a set of aligners roughly every 1-2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink and clean
them. Every time you change the aligner your teeth will move. We will schedule you to visit your dentist every 4-5
weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned.
6. Completion: Once you have completed all of the invisible aligners you will be provided with retainers at no
additional charge. Retainers are an important step to ensure your teeth stay in their new healthier alignment.
Who is suitable for Invisalign?
Both adults and teenagers are good potential candidates for the Invisalign system. However, children may not be good candidates for Invisalign as they are actively growing and developing. In this case, your dentist will recommend other treatment options for your child.

Depending on the case, some patients may need composite resin tags attached on the surface of teeth to help the clear aligners to grip onto the teeth and move them. Each patient is different and not all require these resin tags. The patches are simply made from the same composite material that white fillings are made out of and they are attached and removed very easily and without any discomfort. Another preparatory work which varies from patient to patient is the amount of interproximal reduction necessary. This procedure is to create more spaces between teeth when the patient’s teeth do not have enough space for expansion and be straightened. To do this, we will use very thin discs to sand away some enamel and free up the tooth for less restricted future movement.
